Providing stimulating, effective, and personalized speech and language therapy to children
18 months - 13 years old

At Chatterbox Speech Therapy, we believe that every child's journey to communication should be engaging, personalized, and fun.

Our approach is rooted in child-led services that prioritize learning through play and use of intrinsically motivating activities. We focus on building strong, meaningful connections with both children and their families, ensuring that every session is not just effective but also enjoyable.

Child -Led

Child-led therapy focuses on following the child's natural interests and needs to enhance their engagement in therapy activities. Unlike adult-directed therapy, where the adult controls the session, child-led therapy allows the child to choose or explore activities that captivate their attention. This approach fosters greater motivation, encouraging the child to interact and communicate more effectively.

Play-Based

Play is essential for speech and language development because children learn best when they can engage directly with objects and toys. Unlike picture cards, toys and real objects offer young children a natural context for language use, helping them understand how items relate to one another. Through play, children expand their vocabulary, build grammar, improve comprehension, strengthen problem-solving skills, and develop social abilities and complex thinking.

Intrinsically Motivating

Intrinsically motivating activities engage children because they are interesting, enjoyable, and personally meaningful. In contrast to extrinsic motivation, where a child performs a task to earn a reward or incentive, intrinsic motivation encourages children to communicate and try new skills simply because they find the activity fun and engaging. In speech therapy, this means a child is more likely to participate and connect with you, as the activity itself sparks their interest and makes them feel engaged, rather than just working for a reward.

Connection

Building a genuine connection with both the child and their family is essential for establishing trust and motivating the child to engage in speech therapy. Taking the time to truly get to know the child helps cultivate an authentic relationship, which is key to a successful therapy experience. When trust and rapport are established, the child is more likely to feel comfortable and open, leading to improved communication skills.
